A place called Octagon: A special sanctuary

A relative of mine saw this place, called Octagon, in person and said it was a wonderful experience.

The director, this relative says, is Jack Hannah, and it is a non-profit, non-breeding, no kill shelter for exotic animals, most of which have come from abandoned or abusive backgrounds. Their website is www.octagonwildlife.org.

It is not a zoo, in the sense that all animals have been rescued and no zoo will take them, often because of physical and/or mental disorders. They may have come from terrible circumstances, but their life is much better now.

I enjoyed the video and thought I would share it with you.:)

The Snuggles Project

If you love animals and making things (crochet, knit, quilt or sew) then you will probably be interested in The Snuggles Project. It's making and donating blankets for animals that are in shelters, where the floor can be cement or other harsh, cold environments.

(Personally, I think the puppy is going first 'cause the two of them have a 'smack-down' every day). Oh sure, he's laying peacefully on my lap right now, but he Has been know to Freeeaaak Oout, bite me and run off.

Mrs. Winslow's Wise Words:

There is an article that I found here from MSN that talks about an article from the WSJ that has a great quote:

"Start small and do things that are manageable. Don't get so overwhelmed that you want to quit." - Mrs. Jennifer Winslow

Jeff Bridges waved to his wife at the SAG Awards.

There's a wonderful story about Jeff Bridges waving to his wife at the SAG awards and and their interesting parlay behind the scenes here.

The story makes the truthful point that in a world that has been focusing on Tiger Woods, John Edwards and slew of other men who have not been acting right (and certainly not been kind to their wives) that there are real and good stories of upright men doing the right and kind things.

Enjoy!

Birth of The Blues by members of the Rat Pack

This is a great little video sent to me via my husband's grandma. She is 90-years- young and we have amazing similar taste in things, which I am unabashedly proud of.

Here is part of the Rat Pack: Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra (Ol' Blue Eyes), Dean Martin and a very young Johnny Carson (People, I remembered their names off the top of my head, no Googling for me!:) singing together. Enjoy!
